It has been one year since YOU made Same Skies a reality through the first crowd-funding campaign and we would like to express our sincere gratitude!
September marks a significant milestone for Refugee Learning Nest in that six months have passed since they opened their doors to the community. During this time they have made remarkable progress in their activities, providing educational and recreational opportunities for around 40 children and 20 women.
The confidence and expertise of the volunteer teachers has increased markedly, and the leadership group has continued to develop in their teamwork and project management skills. We would like to warmly congratulate all involved for their tremendous endeavours on behalf of their community, and acknowledge all the hours of work that they contribute to this end.
We are pleased to report that the Nest has now negotiated another six months lease at their current centre, and in addition to an extra classroom, parents and other community members are putting in hard work to level the outside playing area in order to provide a suitable space for sports and exercise activities. Several volunteers from the community have already begun providing coaching and instruction in football and martial arts.
In addition, Same Skies is delighted that an eminently qualified teacher is to visit the Nest later this month on our behalf, to deliver children’s books and teacher training sessions.
